Alright, super moms, so you’ve decided to dive into the entrepreneurial world with as many business skills as a penguin has in a desert – zero! Don’t worry; we’ve all been there. Picture this: you, a mom armed with more diaper-changing expertise than business acumen, ready to conquer the business jungle. It’s like assembling IKEA furniture without the instructions- I know I did it. And by the way, success!

You are not a Harvard business school graduate, neither am I. However, remember, you’ve mastered the art of negotiating with tiny humans. So, let the world see that being a mompreneur is like running a circus – multitasking, juggling, and sometimes involving a bit of clowning around. That is MARKETING! Who says you can’t be the ringmaster of your own business extravaganza?

Step 1: Identify Your Passion

Before jumping into the world of marketing, think about what you love to do. What are your hobbies or interests? This could be the foundation for your business. Remember, when you enjoy what you’re doing, it doesn’t feel like work!

I would like to ephasize passion. Because passion doesn’t mean because everyone does it. Rather, what can you do with your eyes close? Do you bake like no one else? Do you run after your toddler sprinting faster than her when she sees chocolate? Do have a sense of fashion and know how to mix pieces?…etc.

Step 2: Understand Your Audience

Knowing your audience is crucial. Who are the people that might be interested in your products or services? Think about other moms, parents, or individuals who share your interests. Understanding your audience helps you tailor your marketing efforts to reach the right people.

Marketing a small business is understanding your “target market” needs, But HOW?

If you rolled your eyes, I forgive you. I did it couple of years ago when I drew my first avatar. To explain, Your “Avatar, target audience, or niche” is someone who will likely consume your product. Once you figure out your target market. You will know how to convince that specific group to buy your product. Therefore, think who would buy your product if it is there? And don’t say your mom. Your mom won’t build your business even though she is your biggest cheerleader. But other moms will do!

In order to figure out who is your target audience, then you need to do these steps:

  • Draw a character, not necessarly how Picasso will draw, but doodle somehting.
  • Imagine her name, age, profession, location, hobbies, desires…etc.
  • Think of her problem whether it’s a service or a product she is trying to find.
  • Do you think you have or can help solving that problem?
  • Always talk to one person.

Step 3: Create a Simple Business Plan

Don’t let the term “business plan” scare you. It’s just a roadmap for your business. Include basics like what you want to achieve, how you’ll do it, and the resources you need. Keep it simple and focused.

Step 4: Your Online Presence leverages marketing a small business

In today’s digital age, having an online presence is key. Create social media profiles on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, or Pinterest. Share your journey, connect with other moms, and let people know about your products or services.

Pro tip: to get discovered on social media, kill the topic you choose with talking. Keep talking about it.

Step 5: Use Engaging Visuals

A picture is worth a thousand words, right? Share colorful and eye-catching photos of your products or yourself working on your business. Visuals grab attention and make your marketing more appealing.

Step 6: Leverage Word of Mouth

Moms love to share recommendations. We just talked about how your mom is your biggest cheerleader. Recruit your mom, your sister, and your friend to spread the word of mouth. Encourage your friends and family to spread the word about your business. Positive reviews and personal recommendations can go a long way in building trust with potential customers.

Step 7: Offer Special Promotions

Everyone loves a good deal! Consider offering special promotions or discounts to attract customers. This could be a limited-time offer or a bundle deal for your products or services. Make it exciting and irresistible.

Step 8: Collaborate with Other Mompreneurs

Team up with fellow mompreneurs for cross-promotions. This can help you tap into each other’s audiences and expand your reach. It’s like having a business playdate – more fun and more exposure!

Step 9: Keep Learning about the marketing trends

Marketing is an ever-evolving field. Stay updated on the latest trends and tips by reading blogs, watching videos, or joining online communities. Learning from others’ experiences can save you time and energy.

Step 10: Be Patient and Persistent

Building a successful business and marketing a small business take time. Be patient with yourself and your progress. Don’t be discouraged by challenges. Stay persistent, and remember, you’re not alone – there’s a community of mompreneurs cheering you on!
